This 9-week program teaches kids ages 9-12 everything they need to know to be skilled outdoor explorers in the Lowcountry! This program will introduce a variety of outdoor education and survival skills that will come in handy as they grow older and explore natural areas in the Lowcountry on their own.

Classes include:

Building a Fort
Knot-Tying for Sea Kayaking & Camping
Starting a Fire
Becoming Zero Waste: Home Switches That are Practical, Beautiful & Affordable
Participating in Sustainability Project
Map Reading
Cast netting & fishing
Kayak & Paddleboard Safety
Trip planning: Tides, wind, and navigation

Throughout each of these classes they will be learning these skills out in the field and will be a mix of going to barrier islands by boat, exploring the estuary by kayak, or staying on campus and participating in hands-on activities. In addition to these skills, they will be learning about the local flora and fauna through experiential education and exploration.

After completing the program, the students gain their beginner badge and after completing the program three times will receive their Coastal Expeditions Wilderness Certification. Once completing the certification we urge students to apply to become junior counselors for our after school and summer camp programs.
