ACE Basin Blackwater Kayak Tour Book Now

Some of the prettiest places in the Lowcountry are only accessible by kayak, keeping these precious sites unmarred by the hands of man.

The blackwater of the Edisto River is one of those places.  Part of the ACE Basin, this estuary is a model of cooperative conservation efforts between organizations like the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources,  The Nature Conservancy and Lowcountry Land Trust and private landowners.   Rich in human history, this trip is perfect for anyone who wants to know more about the plantation culture and rice production of the 17th and 18th centuries. These isolated water trails are  bordered by diverse botanical specimens of the freshwater environment and are home to a host of birds, reptiles and mammals including warblers, finches, bald eagles, ospreys, owls, alligators, otters and more.  We will go back in time in this tidal, freshwater creek as we meander through the hidden passages of the abandoned rice fields that only a kayak can access.  Expect to see wildflowers blooming along the creek banks from spring through late fall.

This ACE Basin kayak tour is timed with the tides (the blackwater in this part of the Lowcountry is tidal) for an enjoyable paddle through the rice fields of old plantations like Hope Plantation and Prospect Hill.

This trip will begin at Penny Creek Landing and make its way to Willtown Bluff on the South Edisto River.

You can book this as a private tour for groups of 6 or more.
