Why We Give Back
We're Very Grateful

To have the unbelievable good fortune to live, enjoy, build a company, and a beautiful familyhood of environmental advocates, kayakers, birders, explorers, paddle boarders, weekend warriors, volunteers, pluff mudders and all-around nice people here in the Lowcountry. Here are the ways we support the community that’s supported us since 1992.

Coastal Expeditions Foundation

Established in 2018, the Coastal Expeditions Foundation is a natural extension of the hearth path that we've been on since our company was created nearly 30 years ago. We don't just want to explore the beautiful places in the world, we want to be a part of their protection and conservation.

Shem Creek, Mt. Pleasant, SC

We all protect what we love, and every time we help someone have a real, meaningful experience in nature, they take it – and that love – with them, forever.

Conservation

Watching passion become action is one of the best parts of what we do. And, it’s why we give our time, talents, and resources to protect the waters, places, plants, and animals we love. We’re deeply involved in the restoration of Crab Bank, the Sea Turtle Program, and Creek and Beach Sweeps. Organizations like the Coastal Conservation League, The Nature Conservancy, Lowcountry Land Trust, and the Open Land Institute call on us for guide service throughout the Lowcountry.

Education is an integral part of our mission, and we delight in sharing all that we know about the Lowcountry with you.

Education

Whether we’re showing you dolphins feeding in a saltwater creek, the Holy City skyline at sunset, the Boneyard on Bulls Island at daybreak, or sharing Charleston history as you paddle by historic rice fields, for us, it’s about connecting you to the beauty that surrounds in every way possible, so you can carry it with you always. We’re proud to partner with and support the South Carolina Education Program, Island Quest, Over the Horizon, and the South Carolina Aquarium.

Learn More

We’re proud to partner with local and regional conservation groups, and, we focus on educating students of all ages.

Community

Through the Island Quest Field Trip program, students from middle school through college can visit Bulls Island with a naturalist and learn school-based curriculum. Kayaking on Shem Creek and the Black River is made possible through the S.C. Outdoor Education Program. Through a partnership with Palmetto Warrior Connection and funding from a Boeing Employees Community Fund (ECF), we offer Sea Kayak Resiliency Training for veterans. We’re proud to partner with the Special Olympics Kayak team, Winward Farms, and the Center for Birds of Prey. We also coordinate creek and beach sweeps, family days, and fundraising events like the Folly Doggy Paddle and Sea Turtle Expeditions.
