If you’ve never explored on a kayak or paddleboard tour with Coastal Expeditions, you probably have a few questions. We welcome phone calls, so if you want to chat please call us up! Otherwise, you may browse this list of the FAQ’s that we get to see if what you’re looking for is listed here.
WHAT DOES A TOUR INCLUDE?
Everything that you need to go paddling. We provide the kayak or paddleboard, paddle, PFD, dry bag and guide service.
Before we get you on the water, we’ll fit you to the gear and give you a brief instructions on how to use the equipment. Our guides assist with your entry and exit at the dock to make sure that your entire experience is enjoyable. While on the water, your guide will interpret along the way what we are seeing.
IS GRATUITY INCLUDED?
Gratuity for our hard-working guides is not included but greatly appreciated. You will receive a text & email after your outing with an option to tip.
WHAT IF I’VE NEVER BEEN KAYAKING OR PADDLEBOARDING BEFORE?
No problem! Our two on-water locations are perfect for first-time paddlers. We’ll outfit you in the best gear, teach you the basics and you’ll have a guide on the water with you to give you any paddling tips along the way. Our tours are designed to be fun for all ages and skill levels.
HOW LONG IS A TOUR?
We have options for 2 hours, 3 hours, and full day (4-6 hours) for kayaking. Our Stand Up Paddleboard tour is 2 hours long.
WHAT ARE THE AGE RESTRICTIONS?
Children 12 and under must sit in the front of a tandem kayak with an adult.
ARE THERE ANY WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS?
Our kayaks have weight limits. We can accommodate 2 people on a tandem kayak at a combined total of 600lbs. We can accommodate a single person on a kayak at 300lbs maximum. We believe that outdoor adventure should be accessible to everyone and we will make every effort to accommodate you. If you are concerned about being comfortable in the kayak, you are welcome to come try it out before your tour, just please give us a call to arrange it.
MAY I BRING MY DOG?
Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed on our guided tours. We’re dog lovers around here and do allow them on our kayak or paddleboard rentals though. Call us before you arrive so that we can reserve the right kind of kayak or paddleboard for your adventure. Only small dogs can go paddleboarding (larger breeds ruin the boards with their nails).
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
The one thing we require is a pair of shoes that will stay on your feet just in case you need to get out. There are oysters along the edges of the creeks and they are razor sharp. Having on a pair of sports sandals or old tennis shoes will keep you safe.
Otherwise, we recommend a hat and synthetic, quick-drying clothes.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR THE LIFEJACKET?
It is required by the U.S. Coast Guard that you have a life jacket with you at all times. When you leave our dock, you’ll be wearing your PFD and we recommend that you wear it the entire time that you are out.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
You’ll want sunscreen and drinking water. You can bring it with you or purchase it from us when you arrive.
Don’t bring anything out with you that you care about (like your car keys). We have a safe spot for you to put a bag or valuables in our retail shop while you’re out. If you want to bring a camera or phone out with you, ask for a dry bag to keep it in.
