Charleston Audubon Tour

Trace Audubon's Lowcountry Travels

Unique Package from Coastal Expeditions and Belmond Charleston Place

To celebrate National Audubon Day on April 26, Coastal Expeditions has partnered with the Belmond Charleston Place to curate a unique escape for guests to connect with nature and the beauty of the Lowcountry’s landscapes, through the eyes of famed naturalist and painter John J. Audubon.

Audubon’s Painting of Long-billed Curlews. Charleston can be seen in the background.

Like Audubon, who first visited Charleston in 1831 to study the flora and bird species, guests can explore the coastline’s tranquil waterways. Via a private, three-hour kayaking ride or two-hour motor boat tour, an expert and naturalist from Coastal Expeditions helps spot Great Blue Herons, Wood Storks, Brown Pelicans, Oystercatchers, Snowy Egrets and even the elusive Clapper Rail. Absorbing the natural beauty of the area, guests will visit the exact location which inspired Audubon to paint his Long-billed Curlew plate, moved by the panoramic views of Castle Pinckney and downtown Charleston in the distance which have remained unchanged.

Belmond Charleston Place hotel is located in the heart of the historic district.  Recently renovated, the hotel offers luxurious accommodations, amenities and services from a horizon edge pool with retractable roof to award winning restaurants including the renowned Charleston Grill.

After a relaxing massage at The Spa at Belmond Charleston Place, guests can stroll to the nearby Audubon Gallery for a guided tour of its collection while enjoying a glass of champagne.

In 1831, famed naturalist and painter John J. Audubon arrived in. His explorations ranged from Goose Creek to Bulls Island and everywhere between, as he ventured through rice plantations and along beaches to create a portfolio of breathtaking images.

The ‘Field Notes Package’ includes two nights’ accommodation, private kayak or motor boat tour (inclusive for groups/families up to five people), $150 spa credit and a VIP Audubon Gallery tour, from $1,185 (plus tax and gratuities) and families can upgrade to a suite for an additional $200. Advance booking required. Package available until 31st December, 2017. To book, visit www.Belmond.com/CharlestonPlace or call 1-888-635-2350 and use the code “FieldNotes”.

Explore. Chat. Visit. And come on back, y’all.
