Learn the basics of sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding! This 9-week program teaches kids ages 9-13 how to safely and effectively paddle in tidal saltwater creeks. They will be steeped in pluff mud and know the magic of the salt marsh after learning:

• Proper sea kayak entrance and exit;
• Paddle strokes;
• Towing;
• How to create a float plan (reading tide tables/charts, checking weather, etc.);
• Caring for equipment;
• And more!

LEAD GUIDE: KATIE MORRISON
Katie is the Education Coordinator at Coastal Expeditions and directs our summer camps and school field trip programs throughout the year. A South Carolina native, Katie was raised on Folly Island where she found her passion for marine life and salt marsh estuaries.  She holds a degree from Sewanee in Environmental Studies and has certifications in sea kayaking, life guarding, first aid & CPR.

ALL EQUIPMENT & GEAR PROVIDED
Coastal Expeditions will provide everything needed to complete this program, including kayaks, paddleboards, paddles and PFDs.

SAFETY
Each week, 2 Coastal Expeditions guides will lead the students in paddling skills. Guides are certified in paddling instruction (ACA), first aid, CPR and life guarding.  Students wear regulation PFDs whenever they are on the dock or paddling.
