Winter Break Day Camps Book Now

Winter is here and The Outdoor School at Coastal Expeditions is ready for some fun at Winter Break Camp!

Each day is different, taking campers ages 8 to 12 to different destinations from our Shem Creek campus. Sign up for one– or take advantage of all four days!

Daily   9 a.m.- 2 p.m.


Winter Break Camp Itinerary

December 27: Kayaking to Crab Bank Bird Sanctuary
December 28: Paddle Boarding and Outdoor Crafts
December 29: Morris Island Fossil Hunt
December 30: Scientist for the Day!

December 27th: Kayaking and Critter Collection
Campers will learn the basics of sea kayaking with a Coastal Expeditions guide before paddling to Crab Bank Seabird Rookery.  In the afternoon the group will participate in dip-netting and cast-netting off the dock.

December 28th: Paddle Boarding and Outdoor Crafts
Campers will learn the basics of paddle boarding with a Coastal Expeditions guide before paddling on Shem Creek.  On the paddle the group will be on the lookout for wildlife, seeing dolphins, birds, and much more along the way. In the afternoon the group will help build our on campus garden by painting bird houses and planting seeds!

December 29th: Morris Island Fossil Hunt
Campers will take the school boat, Gannet, to Morris Island in the Charleston Harbor for a day of fossil hunting, birding, dolphin-spotting and maritime forest exploration.

December 30th: Scientist for the Day!
After a boat cruise aboard the school boat, Gannet, campers will participate in a beach sweep, dolphin research, entering in the data to the South Carolina Aquarium’s database.  In addition to these fun service project, campers will learn about the estuary and have time to beach comb on the island!

Things to Know

All counselors are certified in lifeguarding, first aid/CPR and ACA kayaking.

SIGNING UP FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK?
If you decide you want to sign up for the entire week give our office a call and we will give you $40 off the total price.

AGES

COVID-19 SAFETY
Coastal Expeditions camp leaders are vaccinated for Covid-19.

WHAT TO WEAR
Dress for the weather and wear a hat to protect from the sun. Even if it is warm, a windbreaker is recommended for the boat ride and while on the island.

WHAT TO BRING
Reusable water bottle, lunch, towel, sunscreen, hat, shoes that will stay on their feet (Tevas or Chaco style sandals are best!).  Pack a full change of clothes in case they get wet!
