We have been gatekeeping Cape Romain sunsets, y’all. No longer.

Throughout the year, we’re offering Sunset Beach Drops to Bulls Island so you can see the painted skies in the refuge on your return trip to the mainland.

This trip brings you directly to one of the most pristine beaches in the world for shelling, swimming, birding, and a chance to reconnect with nature.  The Bulls Island Beach Drop is one of Charleston’s best outdoor adventures.  The trip begins with a naturalist-led boat tour through the saltmarsh estuary.  After departing onto the beach on Bulls Island, guests will be able to explore the beach at their own pace.

All beach drops May-July go to the South end of Bulls Island due to shorebird and seabird nesting activity on the North end of the island. The Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge provides a habitat for shorebirds and seabirds to rest, nest, and forage. Coastal Expeditions is committed to minimizing disturbance to these vulnerable species, particularly during the nesting season when chicks are on the beach.

A naturalist guide accompanies this tour on the island to answer questions about beach finds, wildlife, coastal geology, and the history of Bulls Island.

Cape Romain, home of Bulls Island, is home to a large population of nesting loggerhead sea turtles, bald eagles, bottlenose dolphins, and a staggering 293 species of birds, including rare red knots, several species of terns, ospreys, and a plethora of other shore birds. Seven miles of Bulls Island’s beach are part of the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline on the east coast and allow for unparalleled beach combing and exploring.

This is an excellent tour for families and friends of all ages.
