BONEYARD BEACH SUNRISE EXPEDITION
Where Sunrise Meets the Sea
Begin your day with a moonlit boat ride through the estuary, followed by a safari-style ride across Bulls Island to reach the beach before sunrise. You’ll have time to explore on your own and watch the day begin in solitude on this 5,000-acre barrier island. It’s a rare chance to witness sunrise in one of the most remote corners of South Carolina. Don’t miss this.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Protect South Carolina’s Wild Beaches
When you step onto places like Bulls Island, you’re not just visiting a beach—you’re entering a living, breathing ecosystem where every footprint can make a difference.
From March to October, shorebirds nest in the sand and it is important that we do not disturb them or flush them from their nests.
Activity Level
The boat ride and safari-style truck get you to and through the island with minimal walking required. Short, nonconsecutive walks ~1/4 mile each are necessary to get to the boat, down the beach access trail, and then into the boneyard.
What To Pack & Wear
Drinking water and insect repellent required. Coffee, snacks, and red light flashlight encouraged. Binoculars, camera, and beach blanket optional.
Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. We recommed long pants and long sleeves for potentially buggy conditions on this wild island.
Cancellation & Weather Policy
Tickets for this tour are non-refundable unless Coastal Expeditions cancels for weather. You may transfer tickets to someone else to take your spot (just let us know and we’ll make a note for the captain).
Weather may impact this excursion. If our expert guides determine it is potentially unsafe or unwise to venture out due to thunderstorms or high winds, we will let you know as soon as possible.
Guide Safety & Training
All Coastal Expeditions guides hold certifications in first aid, CPR and lifeguarding. Throughout the year, they participate in continuing education and training to ensure that they are proficient paddlers, and all lead guides hold sea kayaking certifications from the American Canoe Association of Level 1 or higher.
Our captains hold 100-ton master captain licenses from the USCG. Coastal Expeditions boats are custom-built vessels that receive yearly inspections from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Gratuity
Gratuity is not included in your tour price. Our guides go above and beyond to make sure you have a fantastic time out on the water! Average gratuity ranges from 15%–25% of your tour cost based on your experience. It is not required, but always greatly appreciated.
