Take a trip back in time as you paddle along the sites of revolutionary battles, rice fields and historic plantations on this special blackwater paddle.   This adventure is available for anyone looking for a real education in Carolina cultural and natural history.

This blackwater paddle is timed with the tides to make for an enjoyable day on the water and is highlighted by views of the charming Pompion Hill Chapel and a creekside picnic.  Dating back to the 1700’s, this structure is one of the last standing Georgian-style chapels.

Along the way, your naturalist guide will share the stories of the plantations and rice fields, and describe the Battle of Quinby Creek (1781).  Alligators basking on creek banks, swallow-tailed kites soaring acrobatically overhead and ospreys with fresh catches in their talons are all possible wildlife sightings along this epic water trail.  To make this blackwater kayak paddle even more spectacular, wildflowers are prolific along the edges of the rice field canals from spring through fall, setting a backdrop of color that enhances the day.

*This creek is also referred to as Quenby Creek.
