Escape into the beautiful creeks that wind behind the Isle of Palms or glide down a historic creek between docked shrimp boats on Shem Creek. Either way, you’ll enjoy a unique perspective of the Lowcountry while standing on your paddleboard. From the vantage point of the SUPs, you can see deeper into the water and out further into the marsh.  More elusive species like loggerhead sea turtles, manatees, rays, dolphins, and marsh wrens become visible when gliding down these water trails standing on SUPs, allowing for a unique experience on the water.  Learn about the local ecosystems, the animals and plants that inhabit them, and some of the human history of the region (all while getting in a great workout!).

Don’t worry if you’ve never been paddleboarding before!  We’ll teach you the techniques you’ll need to have a great time on the water and use the tides to help us out along the way. Coastal Expeditions guides start each tour on land by getting everyone fitted to the gear and giving some basic instructions.  On the water, guides continue to give tips to help everyone get comfortable on the stand-up paddleboards for an enjoyable and challenging adventure. Once you get your sea legs, your guide will share stories about the local history and lore, while explaining the intricacies of the salt marsh estuary and the critical habitat it provides.

INCLUDES
Gear (stand-up paddleboard, PFD, paddle, etc.), pre-paddle prep/instruction, and guide.

2 hours (includes instruction, prep and on-water time)

PARKING FEE
The Isle of Palms Marina charges a $20 fee for parking. We recommend carpooling, riding bikes or getting an Uber as parking can be limited at the IOP Marina.

Parking at Shem Creek is free but sometimes limited.

ACTIVITY LEVEL
Participants will paddle on a guided expedition that has been timed with the tides for an enjoyable trip.

WHAT TO WEAR
Shoes that will stay on your feet, a hat, and synthetic clothing (it will dry faster than cotton).  During cooler weather, dress in layers.

WHAT TO BRING
Drinking water and sunscreen (available for purchase).

WEATHER
Weather (thunderstorms or high winds) may impact this excursion. Cancellations usually occur due to lightning, thunder or high winds and we will make sure to reschedule your group if needed. Our general cancellation policies apply unless our experts determine it is potentially unsafe or unwise to venture out. In the event that we decide to cancel due to weather, we will make every effort to call you at least two hours before your departure and help you reschedule or credit/refund the full cost of your trip.

GRATUITY
Gratuity is not included in your tour price. Our guides go above and beyond to make sure you have a fantastic time out on the water! Average gratuity ranges from 15%–25% of your tour cost based on your experience. It is not required, but always greatly appreciated!
