Isle of Palms Safari Kayak Tour | 2-hr
The Isle of Palms Safari Kayak adventure is simply a 2-hour version of our 3-hour excursion from the Isle of Palms. Same guides, same gear, just tailored to the needs of all ages.
Departing from our Isle of Palms Outpost at the marina, you’ll find yourself situated at the beginning of the longest contiguous stretch of undeveloped coastline on the Eastern seaboard. What does that mean for you? Wildlife is abundant here. Bottlenose dolphins, blue crabs, sea turtles, oysters, pelicans, egrets and myriad of other species feed and live in this part of the estuary.
If conditions are ideal, we’ll pull the kayaks up on a verdant hammock island to stretch our legs and swim along the bank (its oyster-free). Your guide will show your family the native plants and animals that live on the small island, including edible plants and tiny wharf crabs on a brief nature walk, too!
Your guide will engage your children with stories about pluff mud and pirates while teaching them about the intricacies of the salt marsh. It’s a great way to explore the waters that surround this island oasis.

Things to Know
INCLUDES
Gear (Sit-in sea kayak, PFD, paddle, etc.), pre-paddle prep/instruction, guide, and tax.
TOUR DURATION
2 Hours (includes instruction, prep and on-water time)
ACTIVITY LEVEL
Participants will kayak on a guided expedition that has been timed with the tides for an enjoyable trip.
PARKING FEE
The Isle of Palms Marina charges a $20 fee for parking. We recommend carpooling, riding bikes or getting an Uber as parking can be limited.
WHAT TO WEAR
Shoes that will stay on your feet, a hat, and synthetic clothing (it will dry faster than cotton). During cooler weather, dress in layers.
WHAT TO BRING
Drinking water, sunscreen (both available for purchase)
WEATHER
Weather may impact this excursion. Cancellations usually occur due to lightning, thunder or high winds and we will make sure to reschedule your group if needed. Our general cancellation policies apply unless our experts determine it is potentially unsafe or unwise to venture out. In the event that we decide to cancel due to weather, we will make every effort to call you at least two hours before your departure and help you reschedule or credit/refund the full cost of your trip.
GRATUITY
Gratuity is not included in your tour price. Our guides go above and beyond to make sure you have a fantastic time out on the water! Average gratuity ranges from 15%–25% of your tour cost based on your experience. It is not required, but always greatly appreciated!

We have two little ones who have been long hoping to kayak, but we are far from experts ourselves. Enter Olivia from Coastal Expeditions. She very patiently - and with great enthusiasm - talked 8 and 5 years olds through what I assume is an abbreviated version of the typical tour (not in time, but distance covered) - but which felt like a grand adventure to all involved. All the while paddling from kayak to kayak engaging all in interesting and friendly conversation and pointing out interesting birds and wildlife, and natural features (along with great kayaking tips). By the end, we all felt like we had substantially improved skills - and a real desire to return. Already none of us can wait until next time. While I'm sure all their guides are great, if you have young kids with you, ask for Olivia - she was terrific. Things to bring - sunscreen, hats, water bottles, and if (like us) you are not experienced in kayaking - a sense of humor.
