2021 Dates: March 23, April 5th, April 21, May 29, June 19, July 3, Oct. 31
We’re heading out to an island in the Wando River by sea kayak to find prehistoric shark teeth, vertebrae, ray mandibles and more on a full-day, guided adventure. Along the way to this fossil hotspot, you’ll have the chance to see a wide array of wildlife in this salty, tidal river.
Once we reach the island, expert guides will teach you the tricks of fossil hunting and identification and share information about our local shark species. Although the teeth that we’ll be finding along the shore are over 10,000 years old, sharks continue to be a vital part of our marine ecosystem.
After a satisfying exploration of the island, we’ll paddle back to the landing, enjoying the beauty of this quintessential Lowcountry river along the way. Expect more than just a prehistoric experience– dolphins, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, pelicans and more are likely to make an appearance on this family-friendly day. Your guides will be available to make sure that you don’t miss a wildlife sighting, sharing information about the avian and aquatic fauna that depends on the habitat in and around the Wando River for food and shelter.
Pack a lunch and your sense of adventure on this special trip into the Lowcountry wild.
