Bulls Island Flock Walk Book Now

2023 Dates: June 14, June 28, July 7, July 23

Now introducing Flock Walks on Bulls Island! This new specialty trip will provide a fully guided experience from the north end of Bulls to Boneyard Beach. You’ll learn about and observe the shorebird and seabird nesting behaviors and migratory patterns from a safe distance through a spotting scope. Your guide will point out wildlife and beach features along the way. We’ll be on the lookout for wilson’s plovers, least terns, black skimmers, oystercatchers, horseshoe crabs, sea turtle tracks, and much more!  This is an excellent educational tour for lifelong learners and nature enthusiasts.

Coastal Expeditions has curated this trip in partnership with Audubon SC & with guidance from US Fish & Wildlife Service to maximize educational opportunities while minimizing disturbance to the wildlife. You are required to stay with your guide on the beach. Do not approach birds or make them flush. You must stay away from nesting areas that are marked off with signs and flagging tape. This is a rare opportunity to experience a National Wildlife Refuge during nesting season and learn how to ethically interact with a wilderness beach and its inhabitants.

This is not a self-guided experience. For those of you looking to enjoy the beach at your own pace, check out the Bulls Island Beach Drop or the Sunset Bulls Island Beach Drop.

Things to Know

ACTIVITY LEVEL
Participants will depart directly from the boat onto the beach on a ramp. Once on the island, participants will be led on an estimated 5-mile guided walk to learn about how shorebirds and seabirds interact with a barrier island ecosystem.

Please be respectful of areas roped off for shorebirds and seabirds. Do not enter any roped off areas at anytime for any reason! We will stop offering this tour to the north end of Bulls Island if guests do not respect the posted areas and do not stay with their guides. Coastal Expeditions is committed to minimizing disturbance to shorebirds and seabirds!
