Echaw Creek Canoe Tour Book Now

If you are looking for a truly special canoeing experience, come with us into Francis Marion National Forest to explore Echaw Creek.   From the moment you settle into your hybrid canoe*, you’ll be in an ancient forested wonderland of tupelos and towering bald cypresses.  As an accompanying soundtrack, you’ll be surrounded by the calls of prothonotary warblers, northern parulas and northern cardinals.  You won’t find an area of the Lowcountry that is more raw, wild and exotic.

As you paddle between cypress knees that are protruding from the inky water, we’ll show you how to spot the vivid yellow prothonotary warblers that call this ecosystem home in spring and summer.  And looking to the sky down the creeks open corridor, we’ll search for Mississippi and swallow-tailed kites.

Whenever we venture down Echaw Creek, we can’t get over how prehistoric the landscape feels.  American alligators, turtles, whitetail deer and turkeys often make an appearance while we paddle down the creek.  This is a great blackwater expedition for anyone looking for something out of the ordinary.

*The hybrid canoes have seats that sit low on the decking of the hull, more like a kayak.  This positioning allows us to use kayak paddles for better maneuverability.  The traditional canoe shape of the boat gives you room for gear and to move around comfortably.

You can book this as a private tour for groups of 6 or more.

Trip Advisor Reviews

My husband, in-laws, and I were privileged to experience the Echaw Creek Kayaking Tour this past Saturday, July 12th, 2014. Our kayaking tour guide was Geoff Caruso and needless to say, he was incredible! The tour was incredibly well-organized, detailed, and well-worth our money. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable on all the history, wildlife, and nature of Echaw Creek and South Carolina. The kayaking trip is great for experienced and in-experienced kayakers. My mother-in-law and I had never kayaked before, but with Geoff's guidance and help, we felt like pros by the end of the day! Two Thumbs Up for this kayaking trip!
