Charleston Natural History Society: Bulls Island Book Now

This special Charleston Audubon & History Society field trip will be a winter birding expedition to Bulls Island, the southernmost island within the refuge. As the pelican flies it lies three miles from the mainland, but it is a world away once you get there. The island is a mosaic of habitats, from beaches, mudflats and tide pools to maritime forest and impounded waterfowl habitat. The incredible bird diversity coupled with dramatic Lowcountry landscapes make this island one of the crown jewels of South Carolina’s undeveloped barrier islands.  It is nestled in the middle of the longest stretch of contiguous protected and undeveloped coastline on the eastern seaboard, and the incredible avian abundance is evidence of that.
