Bulls Island Beach Drop
$75 per person | Best Seller, Dolphins & Wildlife, Young Kid Friendly | A day trip
Sunday January 26, 2020 – 7:30am-2:30pm
Cape Romain’s Bulls Island is known for its amazing diversity of birds, other wildlife, and habitats. Walk along salt marsh, through maritime forest and past impoundments to identify and learn about the many birds, wildlife and plant species you will encounter. The birds of the estuary give way to woodland species, transition to the wading birds in the impoundments, and transition again to the pelagic species of the open Atlantic. Glimpse the island processes that include geological morphology, flora and fauna identification, and other surprises along the way.
Led by: David McLean, Biologist, Cape Romain NWR bird surveyor
ARRIVE EARLY
The Bulls Island Ferry departs Garris Landing promptly. Arrive 30 minutes early and walk to the end of the pier.
WHAT TO WEAR
Bulls Island is a 5,000-acre remote barrier island, so dress for hiking. Dress in layers (LONG SLEEVES & LONG PANTS) and wear a hat for sun protection. Once you get to the beach, you can ditch your shoes and dip your toeS in the Atlantic, but you’ll want closed-toe walking shoes while you are hiking the roads and trails of the island.
WHAT TO BRING
Small backpack with plenty of drinking water, lunch, sunblock, insect repellant. Binoculars would be nice to have, too!
ACTIVITY LEVEL
Following a 30-minute eco-tour to the island, participants explore the island by foot for a 6-mile guided hike.
