Offered only a few times a month when the tides are right, this trip brings you directly to one of the most secluded and pristine beaches in the world for shelling, swimming, birding, and a chance to reconnect with nature.   The Bulls Island Beach Drop is one of Charleston’s best outdoor adventures.

The trip begins with a 50-minute naturalist-led boat tour through the saltmarsh estuary.  After departing onto the north end of Bulls Island, guests will be able to explore the beach at their own pace.  The North Beach is a beach combing paradise with a myriad of shells and other sea treasures at the shoreline. Boneyard Beach, one of nature’s most magnificent works of art in the Lowcountry, is a mile and a half walk down the beach.

A naturalist guide accompanies this tour on the island to answer questions about beach finds, wildlife, coastal geology and the history of Bulls Island.

Cape Romain, home of Bulls Island, is home to a large population of nesting loggerhead sea turtles, bald eagles, bottlenose dolphins and a staggering 293 species of birds, including rare red knots, several species of terns, ospreys, and a plethora of other shore birds. Seven miles of Bulls Island’s beach are part of the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline on the east coast and allow for unparalleled beach combing and exploring.

This is an excellent tour for families and friends of all ages.

As we have done throughout the pandemic, we are using guidance from the CDC and other regulatory agencies to adapt as new data emerges.

SHELLING
Please be respectful of the beach and only take a handful of shells.  This beach is managed for the protection of wildlife and it is a special privilege to be able to take home a memento.  We have had problems with people taking excessive amounts of shells in the past, and if it continues we will stop offering this tour.  THIS IS NOT A SHELLING TOUR.
