Beach Drop for Sea Turtles | July 2 Book Now

Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge is the most heavily nested area in the state for Loggerhead sea turtles.  Help the Coastal Expeditions Foundation sustain this important program by joining us on this adventure!

July 2: 10:30am-1:30pm or 12pm-3pm

Join us on a special beach drop to the south end of Bulls Island to explore a wild beach where Loggerhead sea turtles nest.  On the boat ride to the island, Coastal Expeditions naturalists will share information about Cape Romain NWR and some of the endangered & threatened species it protects.

On the island, you’ll get a glimpse into the program as Capt. Chris leads an interpretive walk down the shoreline.  It’s an opportunity to understand the responsibilities of the turtle volunteers who work from dusk to dawn to protect this endangered species.

This fundraiser is a fun and family-friendly event on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

All research and handling activity is conducted under state and federal permits through U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Loggerhead sea turtles are a protected species under the Endangered Species Act.

Every year, the Coastal Expeditions Foundation commits to paying the seasonal salaries of the wildlife biologists in Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge.  In the nearly 30 years that we’ve been running ecotours to the island, we’ve seen the important work that the Sea Turtle Team has done to protect loggerhead sea turtles and watched the exponential success of their efforts.   To sustain this program, the Coastal Expeditions Foundations raises $40,000 annually through donations, Beach Drops and small fundraisers.

Trip Advisor Reviews

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending a "turtle drop" excursion to Bull's Island. It was wonderful to learn from the guides whose passion for what they are doing was so evident. It was casual, informative, interesting, funny and awe-inspiring. There are many tours that are available that emphasize entertainment; this tour is for people who want to learn about our natural environment, what is being done and what we can do to preserve it.
