Beach Drop for Birds & Sea Turtles | July 27 Book Now

The beaches on the barrier islands within Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge are critical habitat for nesting loggerhead sea turtles and shorebirds.

Be a part of local conservation by joining us on this adventure! 100% of your ticket will go directly to protect nesting  sea turtles and seabirds in Cape Romain NWR.

TICKETS: $75

Fundraiser Date: Saturday, July 27

Trip 1: 4:30pm-7pm
Trip 2: 6pm-8:30pm

This special beach drop explores a wild beach where Loggerhead sea turtles and shorebirds come to nest.  On the boat ride to the island, Coastal Expeditions naturalists will share information about Cape Romain NWR and some of the endangered & threatened species it protects.

On the island, you’ll get a glimpse into the program as Capt. Chris Crolley leads an interpretive walk down the shoreline.  It’s an opportunity to understand the responsibilities of the turtle team and shorebird stewards who work all summer to protect these species.  Afterwards, you’ll have time to beach comb on your own and enjoy this wild beach.

This fundraiser is a fun and family-friendly event on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Every year, the Coastal Expeditions Foundation commits to paying the seasonal salaries of three wildlife technicians and two interns in Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge.  In the nearly 30 years that we’ve been running ecotours to the island, we’ve seen the important work that the Sea Turtle Team has done to protect loggerhead sea turtles and watched the exponential success of their efforts.   To sustain this program, the Coastal Expeditions Foundations aims to raise $45,000 annually through donations, Beach Drops and small fundraisers.

In 2024, we expanded our internship program to include a shorebird intern to help protect nesting and resting birds on refuge beaches.

Trip Advisor Reviews

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending a "turtle drop" excursion to Bull's Island. It was wonderful to learn from the guides whose passion for what they are doing was so evident. It was casual, informative, interesting, funny and awe-inspiring. There are many tours that are available that emphasize entertainment; this tour is for people who want to learn about our natural environment, what is being done and what we can do to preserve it.
