The Outdoor School at Coastal Expeditions has developed a new after school program that provides a daily outlet for kids in the Charleston area.
This monthly program gives your child the opportunity to enjoy activities at Coastal Expeditions every day after school, creating a community for kids to be outdoors and away from screens.
Read a full description of activities here.
Details:
- Mount Pleasant Academy has a school bus scheduled to drop off at Coastal Expeditions
- The program schedule coincides with the Charleston Country School District schedule.
- Drop off and pick up is from 2:30 pm-5:30 pm. You can drop off after 2:30 pm and pick up before 5:30 pm, we are flexible!
- Attendance is not mandatory. A weekly form will be sent to inform us which days your kids will be attending that week.
- Mondays and Wednesdays are field trip days where we will be heading out on the boat! To participate in the field trip they will need to be there before 3:30 pm and be able to stay until 5 pm. On these days we will go fossil hunting and take the boat to various islands near the Charleston Harbor.
- Students will be able to engage in a range of activities and have the opportunity to hone in on what is particularly interesting to them. Some of the activities include fishing, cast-netting, kayaking, paddle-boarding, arts and crafts, birding, fossil hunting, and much more.
- Animal of the week! Each week we will choose an animal to learn about and focus our projects around.
- Project of the month! Each month we will engage in science-related projects that develop scientific method skills. This could include water sampling, marine debris surveys, marsh and oyster restoration, and more!
