The Coastal Expeditions Foundation wants to thank you for the generous contribution you made in this last year. Thanks to individual donors like you, in the last year we raised over $100,000 in grass-roots funds to support our programs. It's time for us to say thanks!
We invite you and a friend or family member to please be our guest on board one of our donor trips being offered over the next two months. Hear from foundation executive director Karen Monahan and Coastal Expeditions CEO Chris Crolley, and see first-hand how your gift has helped with wildlife and habitat preservation, educational scholarships, and community service projects.
Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary, located at the mouth of Shem Creek in the Charleston Harbor, used to be one of the most productive seabird rookeries in the state. Due to erosion, Crab Bank was declining to the point that no birds nested there in 2017. Thanks to your generous support, together we raised the 1.4 million dollars needed to rebuild Crab Bank and last year we had our inaugural season which was a huge success!
Nesting season begins on March 15th. Come and see the newly restored sanctuary, hear about the wildlife and education programs that are now benefitting from this work, and see some of the first nesting birds!
Running:
Wednesday, May 10th from 6:00pm-7:30pm
Monday, May 15th from 6:00pm-7:30pm
Sunday, May 21st from 10:00am-2:00pm
Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge is the most significant loggerhead sea turtle nesting site north of Florida on the Eastern seaboard. It takes many volunteers and a trained biologist to handle the task of protecting and categorizing the 2500-3000 loggerhead nests laid here each year.
In 2017, the federal budget cut the funding for the staff needed to maintain this important work. Thanks to your generous contributions, we are able to fund the team every year to ensure this important work is continued.
Running:
Saturday, May 13th from 10:00am-11:30am
