There’s no denying that our office manager, Kelsey, is an ocean girl at heart. When she’s not running the show at our Shem Creek campus, you’ll probably find her somewhere on Folly Beach. We asked her to share some of her favorite places to go when she’s escaping to the “Edge of America.”
“This is the cutest pup friendly café on Folly with tons of outdoor seating. There is always, always a wait (and they don’t take reservations) so I recommend getting there early to put your name in and then walk around the surf shops. They also have a small bar inside where you can order a variety of coffee drinks and/or mimosas and hang out on the benches outside while you wait.”
“When I’m really hungry: The Best International Eggs Benedict w/ a side of home fries (SO GOOD). My “go-to” is the Quiche of the Day. It comes with cheese grits & fresh fruit (always amazing fruit — strawberries, bananas, kiwi, apple slices).”
“One of the reasons I love this café so much is they open at 6:30am. Early risers and photographers can enjoy sunrise at the pier (it’s beautiful) and then head over to Lost Dog. It is one of the few times there isn’t a crowd at the LD.”
“The chicken tacos. They come complete with a watermelon pico de galo and they are amazing– and big enough to split with a friend. You can also get them with pulled pork or tuna.” (Side Note: They are so good that Southern Living put the recipe in a cookbook. Find it here.)
“Best part – there is almost always live music out on the patio at Rita’s.”
“Definitely take a walk on the iconic Folly Beach Pier and hit the gift shop on your way out for an ice cream cone!”
“In the heart of summer finding a spot to not only park, but also relax can be tough. After a walk down the pier, take a quick drive on East Ashley Avenue to 10th street. Getting away from the craziness of Center Street makes parking and finding a spot on the beach a little easier. Be sure all four tires are off the pavement!”
