Looking for some fun ways to get out on the water for the Fourth of July that will take you off the beaten path? We’ve put together some fun tours and trips that will keep you cool all week.

Leaving from our headquarters on Shem Creek, you’ll cruise into the Charleston Harbor aboard one of our Coast Guard-certified, custom built boats to Morris Island for a Beach Drop onto to Morris Island.  You’ll have a few hours to search for shark teeth and fossils, beach comb and relax on the beach.  Pack a cooler and bring your beach chairs for this fun beach day!

You’ve got to get up early for this tour, but it’s worth setting the alarm clock. Departing from our Folly Creek Outpost, you’ll paddle through the creeks that wind behind Folly Island in sea kayaks as the sun peaks over the horizon. You’ll get to experience the salt marsh as the native fauna wakes from its nightly slumber, watching herons fish along the edges of the oyster beds, bottlenose dolphins feeding as they move through the water and maybe even hammerhead sharks snacking on blue crabs in shallow areas. Afterwards, reward yourself with breakfast at the Lost Dog as you recap the experience you just had with friends.

Offered every day of the week, this afternoon cruise of Shem Creek and the Charleston Harbor is a great way to take in the sights and sounds of the Lowcountry.  Departing from our headquarters on Shem Creek, you can take advantage of our privately-owned campus that includes parking, bathrooms/changing area, retail shop and dock.  You’ll boat our newly-constructed boat, Godwit, a 30-foot vessel with a full-covered hard top. The naturalist captain will guide you through the natural and cultural history of the area on this relaxing cruise. This tour is available by private charter as well.

Throughout July and August, we’re offering $15 off Kayak and Paddleboard rentals from 5-8 every evening!  Come by after work or before dinner and unwind with our local dolphins and pelicans as the sun starts to set and everything cools off.  Walk-up are always welcome, but if you call or text before you arrive, we’ll have your gear ready for you when you get here!

To truly get away from it all, take the Bulls Island Ferry to Bulls Island in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge in Awendaw, South Carolina, just a 30-minute drive from downtown Charleston. This 5000-acre barrier island is an undeveloped oasis that serves a critical habitat for alligators, bobcats, loggerhead sea turtles and nearly 300 bird species including bald eagles, white pelicans, wood storks and American oystercatchers. The ferry runs four days a week with departures twice daily.

This special tour of Penny Creek and the Edisto River departs before sunrise for a seldom experienced look at this blackwater ecosystem.  You’ll paddle through intimate creeks lined with wildflowers and steeped in history with Greg as your naturalist guide.  Prior to getting on the water, we’ll teach you the basics and get you fitted to your kayaks. Just pack some water, some snacks and your sense of wonder.  If you’re thinking about doing something special, we can’t recommend this this trip enough.
