Established in 1992, Coastal Expeditions, Inc. is the South Carolina Lowcountry’s premier ecotour outfitter. With on-water locations spanning north from Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge in Awendaw, SC and south to Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort, SC, Coastal Expeditions connects people with nature through meaningful outdoor experiences in the Lowcountry.
Environmental education has always been at the forefront of the Coastal Expeditions mission and the scope of our reach has expanded with the formation of the Coastal Expeditions Foundation. Throughout the year, we lead field trips by kayak and boat on the Black River in Andrews, SC, to Bulls Island in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and to Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary in Mount Pleasant, SC. New programs like Outside In at Sanders Clyde and LEAP are expanding our reach even further.
This position is responsible for coordinating and managing educational programs at Coastal Expeditions.
The Education Coordinator will work under the Director of Education helping to run after-school programming, field trips, and summer camp. Additional responsibilities include helping with itinerary development, school outreach, organization, and other youth education responsibilities.
The Environmental Educator will receive extensive training in educating youth populations around the Lowcountry, learning about the local coastal habitats, and keeping kids safe as they explore outdoors.
The position is based at our headquarters on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, SC. Throughout the week, the Education Coordination may travel to off-site locations or schools to facilitate field trips or programs.
This is a physical job and requires that participants can lift and move sea kayaks and other gear with a team. The Environmental Educator needs to be able to work long days in the Charleston heat.
Local day travel to off-site field trips is required to facilitate field trip programs like Island Quest (Bulls Island) and South Carolina Outdoor Education Program (Black River).
The Education Coordinator will be trained to assist with day-to-day operations at Coastal Expeditions, Inc. including tours & rentals, workshops and other programs.
Starting pay for this position is $35,000 plus gratuity and health insurance reimbursement, commensurate with experience. After the first full season of employment, employees are eligible for an IRA matching program.
