Sunrise Boat Tours in Charleston & Benefits to Waking Up With The Sun

Welcome back to our blog adventurers! We hope you’re enjoying this amazing day so far, and we are excited to have you with us! Did your morning start off strong? We are asking because today’s blog revolves around the concept of waking up early- as in waking up with the sunrise.
Before you close the blog or click back, hear us out!
Waking up early in the morning gives you so many opportunities to start off your day in the best ways, and there are proven mental and health benefits to it.

Getting up before the sun, and possibly watching the sunrise, can give you a chance to proactively approach your day in the best way possible. That early morning time can give you a chance to sort out your thoughts for the day, enjoy some time privately doing something you love, wake up slowly, meditate or exercise, or (our personal favorite) experience the early morning outside with nature. Sunrises on the beach are nothing to shake a stick at! And don’t get us started on sunrises on Shem Creek; absolutely beautiful!

Picture this:
it is early morning and the mist above the water is barely visible. A light breeze makes its way across the water and the river reeds gently tap against each other as it goes. The water moves calmly, but the occasional fish or wild water critter splashes for a moment breaking the silence for the moment. The sky starts to wake up too, as the colors shift to warmer tones and outline the clouds with pinks, oranges, and golds. it is like something out of a movie; a perfect scene brought to you by nature itself. Who wouldn’t love seeing that most mornings?

Now imagine if you were to utilize your time in the mornings to experience the gorgeous mornings of South Carolina by being out on the water itself. You’d be immersed within the perfect scenario we described, rather than just imagining it from your home computer! We often offer sunrise expeditions such as the Boneyard Beach Sunrise Expedition and the Sunrise Kayak Tour for Shem Creek & Isle of Palms.

Boneyard Beach Sunrise Expedition
Our Boneyard Beach Sunrise Expedition is next planned for August 1st, but we have other dates planned you can check out in the link below!

This Sunrise Expedition is a rare and special experience meant to give attendees an opportunity to not only witness the sun rise up on Boneyard Beach of Bulls Island, but to stand on a perfectly pristine shoreline of a National Wildlife Refuge. Nature lovers and bird watchers, we are looking at you too! The amazing diversity of animal species, flora, and fauna, will definitely seal the deal for you to be itching to come back again and again! it is a pretty common reaction to our adventurers to ‘get hooked’ on this trip and we are happy to say we have a consistent group of people who come multiple times because they love it so much!

To get to Boneyard Beach of Bulls Island, our adventurers will take a nice boat charter to the island, and then a truck ride to and from the beach. Cape Romain is closed from sunset to sunrise, so we’ve timed this experience so not only will our trip be quiet and private to our group, but also allow everyone the perfect opportunity to snap that ‘perfect’ Instagram shot of the sunrise peaking over the horizon on the beach. it is an indescribable beauty we always encourage adventurers to experience at least once! Or twice.

Sunrise Kayak Tour for Shem Creek & Isle of Palms
Now if you were looking for something with a bit more interactive experience, you can really get your feet wet by joining our Sunrise Kayak Tour for Shem Creek & Isle of Palms. We rotate the tour itself between our two creekside locations, so we recommend previewing our event information page below before booking!

Just like with our Boneyard Beach Tour, this tour is timed to give everyone the opportunity to view daybreak- but on the water. Early morning we’ll fit adventurers to their kayaks and gear before setting off. Remember that imagination practice we described earlier? This is the real deal. The water is so glassy and beautiful in the morning, and there’s nothing we love seeing more than the salt marsh waking up with the sun as it stretches across the sky.

While we are talking about the marsh waking up, it is worth noting that being out on the water is an experience that gives you up close and personal moments with the wildlife around you. Imagine sitting in your kayak as laughing gulls chatter overhead! Dolphins often make an early morning appearance as they search for their breakfast, too! Doesn’t that sound like an exhilarating experience to combine with healthy habits and fitness?

With these options in mind, and other adventures to come in the future, sunrise expeditions are some of our favorites. You truly set a tone for your day after having breathed fresh air, explored something new, made some new memories, and all of it before breakfast nonetheless!

We are sure some of you out there though may be reading this and saying, “That’s just one or two trips though, I can’t wake up early like that all the time!”. We are here to say you can, and we recommend it for more than just our amazing sunrise expeditions and boat charters.
The health benefits behind waking up early can drastically improve your life:

  1. Ever heard of ‘the early bird gets the worm’ ? Well, if you wake up early you are more likely to eat a healthier breakfast and less likely to skip it altogether. Your body needs energy to function actively, and once you get moving it’ll be sure to let you know!
  2. People that spend time in the morning for themselves often take time to focus on self care in some way, such as a favored skincare routine or meditating. Most people don’t realize that the self care and love that goes into taking care of your body is incredibly important for mental health. It can make all the difference in your day, and you won’t feel rushed before heading off to your activities ahead of you!
  3. Don’t groan, but exercising in the morning is incredibly helpful to not only your physical health, but your mindset for the rest of the day. Exercising releases endorphins that leave you feeling more energized and refreshed before your day has really started! We know it may be the last thing you want to do early in the morning, but once people create morning exercises as part of their daily routines they hardly ever want to go back!
  4. Because you’ve woken up earlier than normal, you have more time to mentally prepare for what lies ahead of you at work or home. People sometimes think they are helping themselves by sleeping as much as possible before getting ready for the day, but sometimes they’re not leaving enough time for the mind to prepare. If you’re running late as an example, you’re scrambling to remember everything ahead of you, everything you need, your schedule, your work route, etc. If you wake up early and take your morning slow, you have more time to mindfully prepare. Doesn’t that sound amazing?
  5. Alongside gaining the time to mindfully prepare, you have the time to travel more calmly. Make your work commute a little earlier than normal and you may be pleasantly surprised at the amount of stress you normally carry with you behind the wheel.

Have we convinced you yet? We know it is a lot to take in adventurers, but we truly believe that waking up bright and early provides so many wonderful mental and health benefits to ignore! We’d also absolutely love to see you out on the water with us at one of our sunrise expeditions and boat tours here in Charleston.

Take steps to taking care of yourself in the mornings and really dedicate your extra time to something that means a lot to you! You’ll be surprised how wonderful your mindset and mood will improve! If you’ve been on one of our boat tours or charters, we know you already love the experience and nature- adding that sunrise is just the cherry on top of it all! Thanks for stopping by adventurers, and we hope to see you at sunrise!
