SHEM CREEK & CHARLESTON HARBOR
Departing from our private campus on the upper end of Shem Creek, this outing is perfect mix of Charleston history and natural beauty. Bottlenose dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, egrets, pelicans and other coastal fauna are frequently seen on these trips, and the views of the historic Shem Creek and the Holy City skyline offer and incredible opportunity to learn about the area.

KIAWAH RIVER
Just south of downtown Charleston is a hidden gem where we have a new outpost. Leaving from the beautiful grounds of Kiawah River, this is the ideal departure spot for a nature tour. Roseate spoonbills and strand-feeding dolphins are often seen this time of year. And a nearby rookery island can be circumnavigated to see nesting seabirds by the hundreds.

SANTEE DELTA
This is a unique opportunity to explore blackwater and saltwater ecosystems on the same day. You’ll begin up the river in freshwater with wildflowers lining the banks. Swallow-tailed kites, hawks and alligators dominate the wildlife viewing on this part of the trip, and your guide will share the slave and plantation history that shaped this region. As you go down the river, it changes to brackish and then salty water. The landscape changes to Spartina grass and barrier islands, with dolphins, bald eagles and pelicans making their appearance.

Coastal Expeditions has a fleet of 6 custom vessels that are all Coast Guard-certified. Captains all hold 50-100 ton Masters licenses and are seasoned naturalists and storytellers. Perfect for groups of 2-50 people, depending upon the destination and boat.
