Lowcountry Environmental Education Program (LEAP) Summer Internship:

Coastal Expeditions Inc. (CEX) is a premier outfitter based in Charleston, SC that facilitates outdoor adventures in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. We are seeking two high school interns to assist with our conservation and education efforts in the Lowcountry. Our company partners with a variety of organizations that work in the outdoor field. The interns will work closely with wildlife experts, biologists, season captains and naturalists to gain a comprehensive understanding of the environmental-based careers.

The required duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assistance monitoring shorebird and seabird nesting sites
• Loggerhead sea turtle nest protection program (locate and translocate nests, install predator guards, assess hatch success, etc)
• Complete projects at the Headquarters Shem Creek location
• Assisting Charleston Waterkeeper with weekly water quality test
• Greeter/parking duties for Bulls Island Ferry
• Shadow a variety of tours and education programs
• Help put kayaks on and off the water

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in high school
• Ability to work in adverse weather and harsh conditions of South Carolina barrier islands and
  salt marsh estuaries (heat, bugs, salt, sand, etc.)
• Ability to do physically demanding work for extended periods of time
• Heavy lifting is required
• A positive and kind personality that likes to work as a team
• Have transportation to and from work (Work address: 514 Mill Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464)

Compensation and Additional Details:

• 8-week-long internship 06/12/2023 – 08/04/2023, Monday-Friday
• $350/week stipend
• Access to kayaks and paddleboards at various Coastal Expeditions locations in the greater
  Charleston area
