Mike saw otter tracks on the hammock island out at Isle of Palms this morning! Be on the lookout on upcoming tours.

Newbies went out to Morris Island to learn all about fossils and barrier island ecology from our paleontologist, Morris Mike!

Olivia saw 145 alligators on her paddle and hike on Bulls Island last weekend!

Bulls Island sightings: 145 alligators, peregrine falcon, buffleheads (Sam saw bobbleheads), white pelicans, deer carcass, minks, sharp-shinned hawks, ibis

Lifeguard training highlight: Freezy pulling out her superhero moves and lifting Scott all the way out of the water! Superhug!!

Jackie and Katie had great trips out to the ACE Basin! They saw a beaver, river otter, barred owl, bald eagles, osprey, coopers hawk.

Annie spotted a yellow salamander, which is our state amphibian! Check out the podcast The Field Guides called Spring Ephemerals: The Spotted Salamander (episode 28) if this is something you are interested in.

Our newest boat in the fleet, Bird, just completed her Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI) and passed! NEW BOAT=MORE EXPLORATION

Sophie is checked off to do Shem Creek tours!! Good work!

Both ferries (Bulls and St. Phillips) are back to their summer schedules!

We just added a new “outpost” in Beaufort at the downtown marina! Coastal Expeditions South will now be doing wildlife & history boat tours several days a week, right from the historic waterfront.

Tommy painted the shark (that we got from Shem Creek Bar & Grill) in the education room and turned it into an Under the Sea shark.  Check out the photo!

What should we name him? And where should we hang him up?

11 Facts for why we need salt marsh!  Great article from The Pew Charitable Trust.  A couple of years ago, Chris took them out on a trip in Cape Romain to see the salt marshes within the refuge, so it’s neat to see them really focusing on their protection.
