Coastal Expeditions is a premier outfitter based in Charleston, SC that facilitates outdoor adventures in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. We are seeking two enthusiastic high school interns to assist with outdoor education programs and serve a supporting role in the daily operations of our kayak company. The interns will work closely with highly trained guides and other seasoned professionals to gain a comprehensive understanding of the outdoor industry with an emphasis on education.

EXPECTATIONS
• Bring high energy to the education team for summer camp
• Serve as a bird steward by participating in efforts to educate the public about the importance of wildlife conservation, particularly the protection of delicate nesting grounds for the shorebirds and seabirds of coastal South Carolina (highlighting the newly re-nourished Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary)
• Learn the inner workings of leading a kayak tour from start to finish – shadow kayak tours with full time guides and assist with set up and clean up
• Support staff at our Headquarters office as needed (restocking inventory, organizational tasks, data entry, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS
• Current high school Junior or Senior in the Charleston area
• Enjoy teaching and working with children
• Ability to work in adverse weather and harsh conditions of coastal South Carolina (heat, bugs, salt, mud, etc.)
• Ability to do physically demanding work for extended periods of time and lift heavy kayaks
• Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
• Must be comfortable with public speaking
• Kayak experience preferred

COMPENSATION & ADDITIONAL DETAILS
• 10-week long internship 06/03/2022 – 08/12/2022
• 20-30 hours/week
• $1,500 stipend
• Access to kayaks and paddleboards at various Coastal Expeditions locations in the greater Charleston area
