The Lowcountry is a stunning gem through all four seasons, and we love to get out and play all year round! In honor of this, we are celebrating the many reasons why Charleston is known for some of the best Kayaking around!
Hello dear friends, nature lovers, and great adventurers of all ages! With the new year quickly headed our way in a matter of weeks, we wanted to celebrate one of the most important things that have gotten us through 2020, and that is the great Lowcountry outdoors! While this year has brought its share of challenges, how lucky are we to live in one of the most naturally beautiful places around? The oceans, the creeks, the rivers, the river beads, oyster beds, seashells, waves, the sand, and the wildlife have all meant so much more to each of us this year. They have been a constant comfort through it all. While the weather is changing, we are crossing our fingers and toes and hoping for very mild weather to welcome us in 2021 so we can enjoy the outdoors without stopping! We love exploring our coasts in every way that we can, but in honor of all the wonderful things our stunning Lowcountry has given us this year, we are going to be talking about why Charleston is such a perfect place to kayak!
While the reasons why we love to kayak in Charleston are endless, we offer 17 different kinds of kayak trips and tours for everyone in your family. Searching for fossils, seashells, wildlife, and just experiencing nature are just some of the tours that we offer, but the reasons why we love to kayak right here in the heart of our beautiful state go even beyond all the special gifts of our 17 tours!

Season Is The Reason
For our readers that aren’t local, but who are excited to visit our amazing city throughout the year, please know that kayaking is a year-round experience. For those of you who don’t know, it can get chilly here in the Lowcountry with that once in every ten year chance of ice and snow. Have no fear, with the proper clothing and our guidance, you can stay warm and (mostly) dry in the cooler months. Turn around to the summer months and you can stay cool and (very) damp if you prefer during those toasty months, too! We love that the Lowcountry lets us enjoy one of our favorite activities all year long, and allows you to see and experience the seasonal changes in our local plant and wildlife!

We know that any new sport can be overwhelming to anyone, no matter their background. The great thing about kayaking is that it is a wonderful activity and sport for everyone and any skill level. The Lowcountry backs that up and offers many different levels of experience in its waterways. Slow and easy creeks are waiting for our beginners and the marshes, rivers, and beyond are ready for those who feel more at home in their kayaks than they do on land!

Our tours will take you all across Charleston and beyond. You can take a tour on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, through Isle of Palms, on the Kiawah River, through the Francis Marion National Forrest on Blackwater, and leisurely next to Bulls Island. You can see more of Charleston and its stunning surroundings in a kayak that you can by land. Not only will kayaking in our beautiful city immerse you in our stunning and natural landscapes, but it will also carry you to some of the best places to enjoy the best food, music, and community that defines the best of the Lowcountry! We are taking extreme precautions with the current state of the world, and you can get the same experience while dining safely on some of the best patios enjoying the gastronomic joys that Charleston is known for. While you’re paddling by enjoying the natural beauty around you, you can think about where dinner might be that night, or where you might want to visit on land that next afternoon. If you’re like us though, we understand that it’s hard to keep you off the water. So, one tour might lead you to a different one the next day, and we are certainly okay with that too!

If you’ve spent even just a few moments on one of our beautiful beaches, you know that one of the most common pastimes of beachgoers is combing the shores for hidden treasure; the perfect seashell, shark teeth, fossils, or even a golden doubloon or two. As we mentioned, a kayak can take you to places you can’t reach by land. Imagine what incredible hidden beaches and exciting treasure troves you can reach by paddling into some of the most beautiful waterways of the Lowcountry? In our Shark Fossils & Facts tour, we take a trip out to an island in the Wando River. After enjoying some incredible sights and sounds, you’ll hit the shore and start your hunt for prehistoric shark teeth, vertebrae, ray mandibles, and much more. Our guides will teach you how to find these treasures, teach you about each specimen you’re finding, and why each is important to the ecosystem. Also exciting? However, there is nothing quite like floating down around the marshes and taking a leisurely float to forget what time and day it is. It is a wonderful activity for anyone’s speed or schedule.
