Wholesome News About Outdoorsy Things

Compiled by Katie Morrison

Happy Turtle Tuesday all my CEXyyyy people!!

South Carolina Aquarium Litter-Free Digital Journal has recorded 1 million pieces of litter!!!! Yay! As you are out on tour or leading field trips, please continue to use this APP to record anything that you collect. We were a big contributor to reaching this number.

Capt. Al and Annie saw three minks in one day out at BULLS ISLAND one day. If you run into Capt. Al ask him to show you the super cute video he got of the mink and him linking eyes 😊

Scott and Katie had a blast out to SPARKLEBERRY SWAMP AT RIMINI, running a group of 18 on Saturday and 7 on Sunday. Along the way seeing many different types of birds, including: pileated woodpecker, Carolina chickadee, brown thrasher, red-shoulder hawk, and much more. We also spotted an otter!

Olivia saw an otter out at KIAWAH RIVER right by Oyster Point! Be on the look out when you are out there.

Olivia and Katie went out with 16 kids yesterday to Morris Island for the KIDS FOSSIL ADVENTURE and had a blast! They all found at least two shark teeth and some of the kids brought their field journal to record the teeth they found along the way.

Chris and Kari (and their littles) had a planning session in Beaufort with Claire and Henry this weekend.  On their DOLPHIN TOUR, they saw 30 dolphins, a 1000-pound bald eagle nest (with eagles), osprey and countless other birds.   While in Beaufort, they met for spring planning at Coastal Expeditions South, including service trips for the community.

Our boat fleet is in the middle of US Coast Guard inspections and the ferry boat Caretta was pulled out of the water today! Our newest acquisition, Turnstone, is almost finished and will be inspected soon! Yay!

We are hiring new positions! Please share with friends that might be a good fit for Coastal Expeditions. We need several seasonal Naturalist Guides, Shop Help and Office Assistant.  Job descriptions can be found HERE.

Our CRAB BANK COMMUNITY TOURS are continuing through this winter/spring starting with some FREE 2-hour boat cruises from our HQ on Shem Creek! Make sure to spread the word so that we can educate Charlestonians about the importance of this seabird rookery island.

NO BIG DEAL but we are on the cover of the Jan/Feb 2021 Southern Living edition!  Our St. Phillips Island ferry boat, Godwit,  is the feature photo along with an article about ST. PHILLIPS ISLAND FERRY.  WAY TO GO, Coastal Expeditions South!!  Aaaaaaaahhhh!

This beaut is on the cover of Southern Living magazine!
