Staff Of
Naturalists
We here at Coastal Expeditions consider
ourselves on a mission to save the planet. Let us introduce you to our staff of
naturalist/kayak guides, also known as the "Super Friends."
Captain Chris Crolley -
aka. Aquaman Bout as Southern as grits with wisdom far exceeding his
years, Chris always exceeds your expectations, whether you have the privilege
to paddle with him or to join him on the Bull Island ferry, he will never leave
you disappointed, only wanting for more.
Pete Cortese - aka. The
Green Latern Though northern by birth, Pete is a Southerner at
heart. His honed interpretational skills will enable you to view the natural
world as you may have never seen it before. As a seasoned paddler he will
always ensure that you experience a fun filled day on the water.
Tonya Bernard - aka.
Wonder Woman Raised in the Lowcountry, Tonya is no stranger to the
wonders of our local waters. Her dynamic nature and exuberance are apparent on
all levels and create a rich learning experience that will leave you with a
better understanding of the environment around you.
Brian Wilson - aka. Silver
Surfer Our newest superfriend, Brian is no stranger to the marvels
of outdoor education. Although he is not the founding member of the Beach Boys,
he is famous to us all the same. Brian comes to us with a wealth of experience
and is also pursuing his own teambuilding endeavor called Adventure Teamworks.
Rest assured there will always be a reckoning with the Silver Surfer.
Brad Floyd - aka. Mr.
Fantastic Yet another local southern boy, Brad's lust for life is
apparent both on the water and off. His knowledge of Lowcountry history is
unmatched, stitching together the past and present and stressing the impact of
humanity on the natural world.
Anne Goold - aka.
Storm Founder of Coastal Expeditions, Anne is still a vital member
of the team as a consultant and part time superhero. She is an inspiration to
us all and is always there when we need her.
Ian Sanchez - aka. The
Atom Just like the original settlers of South Carolina, Ian came to
us by way of Barbados. His connection with local history is fervant as well as
his obvious love for the natural world.
Mission Statement: The purpose of Coastal Expeditions, Inc. is to
promote knowledge of and interest in the South Carolina coastal environment.
South Carolina's 187 mile long coastal zone, rich in both variety and abundance
of resources, is most fully appreciated by those who have gained experiential
awareness of the coastal waters through some degree of immersion. While the
coastal ecosystem - the estuaries, bays, rivers and creeks that compromise the
area where the land meets the sea - may not appear fragile, it is indeed easily
alterable. Introducing visitors and residents to some of the coastal region's
most pristine areas, while ensuring that despite activity the areas remain
pristine, requires the use of minimal impact vessels. Promoting an awareness of
the coast's beauty, its function and its fragility in a manner that is safe and
protective of its clientele, in turn encourages broader stewardship of the
coast's irreplaceable resources. Enabling a broader range of residents and
visitors to experience the coastal ecosystem firsthand is the primary and
driving force behind Coastal Expeditions, Inc. |
