South Carolina is one of North America's most biodiverse regions. From the Appalachians to the Atlantic, our state boasts a virtual kaleidoscope of ecosystems veiled by Spanish moss, thick fogs and time forgotten. Here, nature and culture are interwoven into the fabric of South Carolina's rich heritage. Inextricably linked, people and the environment form the core of our state's real community. Historically, waterways connected life here in South Carolina. Today they remain the lifeblood of our bio-region and the truest indicator of the health of our people and our environment.
Our state's natural beauty and local character are not without threats to their existence. Increased development, water rights, agricultural pollution and energy concerns are just a few of the many issues standing between South Carolina and clean, sustainable future.
At the core of Coastal Expeditions is a deep appreciation of our natural places. A passionate dedication to their protection and survival drives us. It is the beating heart of our mission statement.
Through education and real experience, we at Coastal Expeditions strive to foster a greater awareness of our environment and promote the importance of its stewardship. Providing low impact access via kayak, mountain bike or on foot to the biodiversity and beauty of the lowcountry, we help visitors and locals alike renew a love of their own "backyards," to become native to a place.
Working partnerships with local and national conservation champions such as the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League and The Nature Conservancy promote access, real-time feedback and help to identify biodiversities of priority concern.
Act local!
Volunteers are welcome. We offer fun and entertaining opportunities to help cleanup our beautiful home. Come and paddle as our guest and sweep the creeks. Marine trash and debris can be hard to reach... unless you're in a kayak!
If paddling isn't right for you, join us aboard the Island Cat as we venture to Bull Island in the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. A day of walking the beach and finding all sorts of bottles and weird boat parts right on the Atlantic Ocean. Your services in return for an awesome day in one of the most scenic areas in the lowcountry.
